About Beacar

Power and Cooling Gear, Tested by People Who Actually Use It

Welcome to Beacar — your USA-focused authority on portable power stations, 12V fridges, camping power, RV refrigeration, overlanding setups, and emergency backup power.

If you’ve ever spent real money on a power station that couldn’t keep your fridge running, or a 12V cooler that struggled in the heat, you know how frustrating bad gear is. That’s exactly why Beacar exists: to give you hands-on, honest reviews so you buy the right product the first time.

Our Story: From Cars to Off-Grid Power

Beacar started life as an automotive site. As our work and our audience shifted toward overlanding, van life, RV travel, and off-grid living, one topic kept rising to the top — keeping power on and food cold when you’re far from a wall outlet. So we made a decision: stop being a generic blog and become the best resource we could be on the subjects we actually live and breathe.

about beacar

Today, Beacar is a focused, independent review site built around power and cooling gear for life on the road and life off the grid. (You may still spot a “Car Guides” link in our menu — a small piece of our history we’ve kept around.)

What We Cover

We go deep on the gear our readers rely on:

  • Portable Power Stations — sizing, real capacity, recharge speed, and solar charging.
  • 12V Portable Fridges & Refrigerators — amp draw, runtime, cooling performance, and reliability.
  • Camping Power — rugged, trail-ready power for tents, base camps, and weekend trips.
  • RV Refrigeration — keeping food cold on the road without draining your batteries.
  • Overlanding Power & Cooling — durable systems that survive real backcountry use.
  • Emergency Backup Power — keeping essentials running when the grid goes down.

Who Beacar Is For

We write for people who depend on portable power and cooling in the real world across the United States:

  • Campers and weekend adventurers
  • RV and motorhome owners
  • Overlanders and off-roaders
  • Road trippers and van lifers
  • Truck drivers
  • Emergency-preparedness and backup-power buyers

How We Work

We don’t review gear from a spec sheet. We buy, borrow, and live with the products we cover — measuring usable capacity, runtime, amp draw, recharge times, and more with real instruments. When something underperforms or raises a safety concern, we tell you plainly.

Every review, guide, and byline on Beacar is led by Amy Cuban, our Lead Power & Cooling Reviewer (she/her), who brings 8+ years of overlanding and off-grid experience to every test. Learn more about how we test and about Amy Cuban.

Transparency & How We Make Money

Beacar is reader-supported. When you buy through some of our links, we may earn a commission from Amazon Associates or direct affiliate programs (Jackery, EcoFlow, Bluetti, ICECO, BougeRV, Dometic, ARB) — at no extra cost to you. This never changes our rankings or our verdicts; we recommend the best product for you, not the one that pays the most. Read our full Affiliate Disclosure.
